The Journey
Hit another wall with this project. Stephen had an emergency and left with out any work done on the book. Trying to keep positive and I think its working. Found this poem by a local poet named Mary Oliver.

Return To Town
Back in town again after some time away. Last night the sunset on the bay was breathtaking and the full moon lit up the sky like a search light. I've come back to start working on the design of my first book. Stephen Male, a good friend and a real talent is working on the project with me. This moment in my life is something I've wanted for so long and to be making a book in and about this special place with the people I'm making it with is a dream come true.

Summer Is Here
After a rainy July summer is finally here and its almost over. My children have been loving the beach and finally got over their fear of crabs, they've discovered they can catch them. The photos are of my father and uncle catching those same crabs and my grandfather bathing in the bay he loved so much.

Freddy
Freddy Rocha's a local guy. He walks up and down main street bummin cigarettes and money. I once gave him a good amount for posing in a magazine. Now he thinks I'm loaded. I promised myself I wasn't gonna start giving him money this summer but he caught me at weak moment yesterday and I gave him 20 bucks. I saw him 15 minutes later he told me he was broke. He said he got a pack of cigarettes and 2 scratch cards.

Happy 4th, R.I.P. Popeye
Today's Independence Day. On July 4th 1776 the declaration of independence was signed and American was free from the Kingdom of Great Britain. There's a parade and fireworks in town and hundreds of people have arrived. I always think of Popeye on this day. He was a local guy who drank a lot and collected cans for money. Everyone called him Popeye because he looked just like him and every 4th he would dress in a Popeye costume for the parade. He died in 2000 and I heard that he was found dead in a portable toilet in full costume. A local artist named Jay Critchley called him "the Town Crier for the unspoken".

Koehler's Butchy
Went to my friend Michael Koehler's Photography show tonight. He took this photo of Butch. Butch wore a motorcycle helmet for the last few years of his life. I don't know if he slept in the helmet but I never saw him without it. Once I ask if I could take his picture and he threatened to kick my ass.

Heading Back To Land's End
Haven't done a post for some time, sorry to those who are checking my blog. On my way back to Land's End now. Trying to get to the Pat de Groot opening at the PAAM. She's a local artist and friend who has taught me a lot about the process of creating art. She's also the curator of my show next summer at the PAAM.

Kemp Cottage
Haven't done a post for some time do to the fact that I've been busy turning an old run down cottage into my home for the summer. It was originally built for Harry Kemp by his friends as a birthday present. Harry was a poet and author who lived a lot of his life in a shack on the dunes. He was known as the "Tramp Poet" or the "Poet of the Dunes".

Strippin Bud
A bit low on cash so I've been stripping a roof in Dennis for my buddy's construction company. Really hard work and the owner of the house watches you work all day, I guess he wants his money worth. He says he wants to learn but there ain't much to it, you tear off the shingles until there ain't no more. I've never thought about Dennis much so I started to read about it and I found this fable.

East Harbor
Been taking some pictures around a place called East Harbor. In 1868 a dike was built for train tracks to be laid and the harbor was cut off from Cape Cod Bay. Over time the salt water became fresh and it's now known as Pilgrim Lake. Some people say that Provincetown would be an island today if the dike wasn't made. The photo is of the road around the lake.

Bound East for Cardiff
I just read Bound East for Cardiff today. It's Eugene O'Neill's first play and it premiered at the Provincetown Players theater. The theater was an old fish house at the end of a wharf. What a setting it must have been for this moving play. The text is from a book called Time and the Town A Provincetown Chronicle by Mary Heaton Vorse.
